The Mental Health Social Network (MHSN) is an e-project that started shortly after a Google search was made to find a global social network that people who live and deal with mental health issues could use. That original search returned zero usable results.

So what is the basic idea behind MHSN

The idea is to provide a global social network that focuses solely on mental health and captures all knowledge and information so that others can benefit. It is a place to come to when you are dealing with mental health issues and need immediate and long term support and friendship. It is a place to come to and collaborate with like minded individuals to improve the way mental health is treated and sustained.

One of the first things people who want to know more about mental health tend to experience is the multitude of websites, charities, organizations and people on various forums, chat rooms and social networks there are. MHSN wants to act as a one-stop place where you know your link to everything to do with mental health can be found easily and in a uniform format. It also wants to be a world leading social network offering you an online environment which is easy to use and easy on the eye.

In terms of social networks and their relevance to mental health; up until now other well known networks that discussed mental health were not ideal for retaining information for others to pick up and use and the mental health message easily gets lost among the other non related forums and apps. MHSN is not only intending to be a one-stop central pool of information that people being affected by mental health issues can tap into and use at any time 24/7 but it also offers you the chance to still involve the other websites you may use like Facebook and Twitter by providing easy to share links.

MHSN is also a strong community where people will not treat anyone with a mental health problem like an outcast. If they do, report them and they will be banned. This is the place mental health sufferers, physicians and therapists have been waiting for. Let's show websites have a heart. Sir Timothy Berners-Lee founded the WWW in 1989 and ever since then he has been advocating that the real strength of the world wide web will be demonstrated by the mutual collaboration of minds and as a result physical good will occur. What better way to demonstrate this then to bring mental health minds together and find solutions to issues faced from those living with and treating mental illness. If each of us can improve just one other person's life by sharing our own good and bad experiences, thousands (hopefully millions) of people's lives will be improved and in some cases saved.

If you don't want to be alone anymore and want to find people who are here for you and perhaps suffer from the same issues as you or treat the same issues as you, this is the only place on the internet to help fulfil these needs. This site believes that bringing together both the sufferers and those who work in the mental health field is the only way forward to open and transparent solutions.
